Is Ellen DeGeneres Really Turning 60?
by EG
Ellen DeGeneres has a lot to look forward to in the next several months — including her 60th birthday on January 26.
“In some ways, that number doesn’t even compute,” DeGeneres told Good Housekeeping. “I can’t even believe I’m going to be 60 – I’m so immature; I’m a child.”
And with age, comes more confidence in who one is. “I know this: I’m kind. I’m a good person to work with and for,” the talk show queen said. “I’m putting on a great show that I’m proud of and that makes people feel good. I just try to be the best person I can be.”
But DeGeneres’ outlook wasn’t always so positive. In fact, she told the magazine she struggled with depression after coming out of the closet in 1997.
“The bullying I endured [in Hollywood] after I came out made up for the lack of it during my childhood,” she said. “I moved out of L.A., went into a severe depression, started seeing a therapist and had to go on antidepressants for the first time in my life. It was scary and lonely. All I’d known for 30 years was work, and all of a sudden I had nothing. Plus, I was mad. It didn’t feel fair — I was the same person everyone had always known.”
