Elizabeth Hurley Cast as Villainess in 'Wonder Woman' Pilot

PR Photos Just last week, we learned that "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming NBC pilot. Well, the star-spangled heroine now has a villainess: Elizabeth Hurley.

Earlier today, Hurley (who is known to most as the leading lady in the first "Austin Powers" movie or as the devil in the Brendan Fraser comedy "Bedazzled") tweeted that she is "Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I'll be playing the evil villain. Can't wait."

Hurley didn't mention which villain she would be playing, and it isn't as obvious as guessing the villain for, say, a "Superman" TV show (Lex Luthor would always be the best bet). Wonder Woman's best-known villain to TV audiences would probably be Cheetah, who was featured in the Superfriends cartoon. But a woman in a cat costume seems a bit weird for a modern NBC show.

Deadline is reporting that Hurley will be playing Veronica Cale, a pharmaceutical executive who harbors a jealous grudge against Wonder Woman/Diana Prince for her beauty and success.

The character was created only recently (in 2003) by Greg Rucka as "a Lex Luthor for Diana." Wonder Woman has had jealous adversaries in the past, including the 1970's villainess Dr. Cyber, who was disfigured in an accident and sought to mar Wonder Woman's beauty as well. We could see a sort of blend of these characters in Veronica.

Of course, Elizabeth Hurley is anything but disfigured, so maybe the beauty jealousy won't really come into play.
