'Elementary' and 'Vegas' Get Picked Up

'Elementary' and 'Vegas' Get Picked Up Not every new show is getting axed like “Animal Practice” or “Made in Jersey” this season. CBS has given the Sherlock Holmes-based drama “Elementary” and the western-meets-mobster “Vegas” the go-ahead and a back-nine order, so no worries that the two will disappear mid-season.

"'Vegas' and 'Elementary' have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, announced in a statement. "Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.”

“Vegas” has been ranked the most-watched new show this year, with 14.9 million viewers. “Elementary” comes in close behind, averaging 14.3 million.

Arrow,” of the CW, has also made the cut, the superhero drama making it for another season. In fact, its premiere was the most-watched show for the network, any night, for three years, and it hasn’t lost momentum.

CBS’ “Partners,” on the other hand, is foundering, and its fate remains unclear—although no one seems too optimistic. Lackluster NBC comedy “Guys With Kids” is faring only slightly better, and the lukewarm “Animal Practice,” as previously noted, will be sneakily replaced with season 2 of “Whitney” in hopes of giving that limp comedy a chance to bring in new viewers and save itself from a similar fate.
