Ed Helms Takes A Stand For Gays, Against Chick-fil-A
by Sean ComerEd Helms hath forsaken Chick-fil-A. Praise our Earth, for it missed not a moment's rotation.
The co-star of NBC's "The Office" and "The Hangover" took some serious umbrage with the national chicken chain founder's public statements against homosexuality, TMZ claims. The comedian got so up in arms, that he's reportedly sworn off their tasty, tasty poultry completely.
"Chick-fil-A doesn't like gay people? So lame. Hate to think what they do to the gay chickens! Lost a loyal fan," Helms tweeted.
When he's not pondering homosexuality among tasty feathered friends, Helms' stance now puts him in company with the celebrity-studded NOH8 campaign backed by Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, the Kardashian Kult and others, which has also organized a boycott.
As a point of reference, Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy recently told a Christian publication that his brand is collectively "guilty as charged" of opposing gay marriage. Claiming to support instead the "biblical definition of the family unit," his company reportedly gave groups opposing same-sex matrimony nearly $2 million in 2010 to campaign against gay marriage's legalization.
That Cathy would feel as he does shouldn't seem surprising: Chick-fil-A's corporate culture rooted so deeply in conservative Christian values and norms as to close stores on Sunday isn't exactly a secret. That being said, does anyone else have a very hard time imagining Chick-fil-A suffering dire revenue straits because Andy Bernard will getting his chicken sandwich fix elsewhere?
Oh, well. Props to him for standing by his beliefs, but on the bright side....more waffle fries for me.
