'Eastbound and Down' Creators Get New Show on HBO

The creators of "Eastbound and Down" got good news today, as HBO has ordered a new series from Danny McBride and Jody Hill. The show, titled "Vice Principals," will center on a high school and the almost-bosses of the whole place, the vice principals.
While "Eastbound," which starred McBride as disgraced baseball pitcher Kenny Powers, never posted big numbers in terms of ratings, the show had enough of a cult following to keep it on the air. McBride even landed an endorsement deal with athletic shoe company K-Swiss as his character because of the show's popularity among fans.
Even if "Vice Principals" posts similar ratings to "Eastbound," it's still a risk that the premium cable network is in a good place to make: "Veep" has gained some awards attention, including wins for Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, and the brand-new "Silicon Valley" has been getting positive reviews from critics in its first season, setting up a good environment for another half-hour comedy.
Plus, HBO has been setting records with "Game of Thrones" ratings, and with many more seasons on the horizon, the premium cabler should be in good shape for a long time to come.
"Vice Principals" does not have a set premiere date or number of episodes, but details should be announced by the network soon.
