Dylan O'Brien Update: 'Maze Runner' and 'Teen Wolf' Deal with His Injuries

After Teen Wolf star Dylan O'Brien was seriously injured during the production of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the production schedules of both the film and the TV series were called into question. O'Brien's recovery was slow, and it was unclear how both projects would proceed while he was out of commission. Now we know how one of them will handle the actor's inability to work while he recovers.

O'Brien won't be a part of Teen Wolf's upcoming sixth season, but his character's absence will be explained in a way that allows him to return when he's able. The series will introduce a new villain who is able to abduct people and erase them from their loved ones' memories. And, surprise, that's just what happens to Stiles, the character played by O'Brien. That means Stiles can disappear, and the series can go on as if he never existed. Then, when O'Brien is able to work again, presto, back come the memories.

The future of The Maze Runner is not so clear. The film has not yet resumed production, which was halted after O'Brien's injury, and its release date has been pushed back almost a year, from February 2017 to January 2018. O'Brien has been recently spotted out and about, but there's no explanation yet for why shooting of the film has not picked up again.
