The 'Downton Abbey' Finale - What Can You Expect?
by Shannon KeirnanThis weekend will bring the finale of season three of “Downton Abbey….” And while it might not seem possible that they could squeeze any more drama in, rest assured, they will.
So what will Sunday’s episode reveal?
Expect to be thrown a jarring year forward—so while we’re still mourning the fresh death of the beautiful Sybil, Downton has moved on from their initial shock. So when a housemaid makes advances on poor Tom Branson, we may be appalled, but will Tom be ready to open up again?
The episode will also bring much of the family to Scotland, to visit Robert’s relatives. The free-spirited Rose happens to be the daughter of one of these relations, so fair bet that the spoiled teenager will reappear. Will she stay much longer? Does anyone want her to?
Thomas and Jimmy are still uncomfortable with one another, but Thomas will have an opportunity to get back in Jimmy’s good graces. Does that flame still burn in poor Thomas?
As spoiled by the episode preview (thanks, PBS), Mary is indeed pregnant. With Sybil’s horrific death in the back of everyone’s minds, Mary and Matthew are all ease and joy over the upcoming birth.
Poor Edith may have turned down the advances of her married editor with great diplomacy, but that won’t be the end of it. Can Edith please get a break already?
Audiences are told to expect romance in the air for characters both upstairs and downstairs… Are we rooting for Daisy, who was just given a huge opportunity by her late husband’s father?
Additionally:
The episode will end with two new residents of Downton. One of them we’ve met in season three (please don’t be Rose, please don’t be Rose…)
There will also be two less residents. Uh oh.
