Donald Glover Really Is Going to Play Spider-Man!
by Andy NeuenschwanderHey, remember that time the entire Internet went crazy because there was a rumor that "Community" star Donald Glover was going to play Spider-Man?
Well, it's actually happening! Sort of.
Glover is set to play the web-slinging superhero in "Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors," an offshoot of the currently running "Ultimate Spider-Man" animated TV series. In this run of the show, the original Spidey, Peter Parker (voiced by Drake Bell) travels to alternate universes where he meets other Spider-Men that we've seen in the comics.
One of those Spideys is Miles Morales, a half-black, half-Hispanic boy who took up the Spider-Man mantle under the Ultimate Comics banner. Glover will be lending his voice to Morales' character in the animated series.
Glover has said that he's excited to play the role, but he's not giving up on being a live-action Spider-Man at some point in the future.
"I'm still holding out, though," Glover said in an interview with USA Today. "I still have hopes to do something like that one day. I don't look at this as second place. Spider-Man, he's such an icon—you have to do something with him."
The third season of "Ultimate Spider-Man" launches the "Web Warriors" run, and premieres on August 31st.
