Where Does 'Sons of Anarchy' Spin Off Stand?
by EG
Fans of Sons of Anarchy have reason for hope, but rumors that a spin-off series based on the FX network's hit, which ended in 2014, are, at least so far, greatly exaggerated. The original series' showrunner, Kurt Sutter, caused an uproar a week ago, when he tweeted that a spin off was "a step closer," but there's no official word yet that a new series is definitely happening.
Rumors have been flying about a potential spin off for a long time, and they seemed to be well-founded, given that Sutter has expressed interest in doing a new series based on the original SOA. Sutter has suggested that he might have ideas for series revolving around the origins of the original series' motorcycle club or a parallel series about SOA's rival club, the Mayans.
Either way, Sutter has time to work on a new project now, since his follow-up project after the end of SOA, The Bastard Executioner, was cancelled by FX after a single season. That series was met with predominantly negative reviews and never found a solid audience.
Sutter's cryptic Twitter announcement might mean that he's in the early stages of a deal on the SOA spin off, but the absence of an official announcement likely means that a new series is still not a done deal.
