Doctor Who Christmas Special to Show in Theaters
by EG
This year's Doctor Who Christmas special was already set to be kind of a big deal, with the promised return of River Song and her first meeting with Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor, but now it's going to be an even bigger deal -- as in, as big as a movie screen. This week, BBC announced that the special will be given two special showings in movie theaters in the United States following its airing on television.
The special will air on BBC America on December 25, and then it will go on to a two-night engagement in about 300 theaters on December 28 and 29. The two showings, which will be promoted by Fathom Events, will feature bonus content to go along with the special, including an interview with Alex Kingston, who portrays River Song, and a behind-the-scenes short featuring Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat.
Beyond the appearance of River Song, the Doctor's time-traveling wife, essentially nothing is known about the plot of the Christmas special. But does plot really matter when you've got the chance to see a two-story-high TARDIS on the big screen? Tickets for the showings will be available beginning November 13 on the Fathom Events web site.
