'Divergent' Sequel Is Going to Be 3D
by Andy NeuenschwanderIf you thought that zip-lining through the ruins of a futuristic Chicago was cool, wait until you see the new "Divergent" sequel.
"Insurgent," the second movie in the YA movie franchise, is set to release in both 2D and 3D, according to Lionsgate. Additionally, the movie's marketing campaign will feature "3D interactive movie posters," whatever that means.
"The second film in the Divergent franchise takes the story and action to another level, and by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen," producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher said in the announcement. "We cannot wait to share this experience with audiences around the world."
The sequel will pick up exactly where the first movie left off, with Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) picking up the pieces after the Dauntless attack orchestrated by their rival faction, Erudite. With tensions between the factions rising, there's a chance of an all-out war among the many factions in the city.
Sure, there are going to be even more action scenes in the sequel, and sure, the setting alone will probably look pretty cool in 3D. We bet all the jumping off of trains scenes will be even more thrilling.
But let's be honest, here: Theo James in 3D is the real draw. Amirite?
