Disney Doesn't Like Star Wars Rogue One, Calls for Reshoots

The hope that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would be a triumphant beginning for Disney's extended Star Wars universe got a little dimmer this week with news that the studio has called for reshoots of the prequel that's due out this December. There's no word yet whether the reshoots will delay the release of the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney executives thought that the first cut of Rogue One was "tonally off" with the feel of a "classic" Star Wars movie and that it felt more like a "war movie." The report says that the reshoots will be aimed at lightening the movie's tone and bringing it into line with the feel of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Rogue One takes place immediately before that original Star Wars film.

There is also speculation that the reshoots might be needed to include Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in the film. The actor will play Solo in another upcoming Star Wars prequel, but he was cast in the role to late to be included in the original Rogue One shoot.

Rogue One is being directed by Gareth Edwards, whose previous work include's 2014's Godzilla and 2010's Monsters.
