Discovery's New Shows: Polar 'Planet Earth' and 'Penn & Teller's Secrets of the Universe'

Discovery's New Shows: Polar 'Planet Earth' and 'Penn & Teller's Secrets of the Universe' Getting tired of "MythBusters" reruns? Don't worry, the Discovery Channel has just announced some new shows and specials that will keep you entertained (and maybe teach you a few things, too!).

The "Planet Earth" team, which has already brought some incredible footage to Discovery, will have a new multi-part special titled "Frozen Planet." The show will be formatted much in the same way that "Planet Earth" was, but will focus entirely on the polar regions. So expect more polar bears and albatrosses.

For those who are "MythBusters" fans, this one should appeal to you: Penn & Teller will be hosting a new show called "Penn & Teller's Secrets of the Universe."

The show also deals with busting myths (and some of them, like finding out if swearing helps you deal with pain, have already been covered by "MythBusters"), but takes a slightly different format. In the show, Penn and Teller will present two questions, such as "Can you lift a 5,000-pound car with a human hair?" and the audience must determine which is true, and which is false.

Discovery will also be adding "Best in the Business," which puts two people in the same occupation up against each other in competition, "Life on a Wire," which follows a daredevil family, and "Swamp Brothers," which goes inside the world of exotic reptile sales by focusing on a reptile farm and sanctuary owned by two brothers in Florida.

The new set should provide a nice balance between reality-competition and documentary. Plus, Penn & Teller are always entertaining!
