Did Tensions Spring Up Among the 'Breaking Dawn' Cast During Filming?

With the climactic “Twilight Saga” love-fest hitting its stride, at least one cast member won’t be shy about raining on the parade.

23-year-old actress Nikki Reed has played vampire Rosalie Hale since 2008’s franchise-launching hit “Twilight,” but claims it wasn’t long after the first adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s cultural phenomenon series of novels that the mood started shifting dramatically.

Initially, she said in the December/January issue of Seventeen, “It was innocent and fun, and we were like one big happy family. It was like being at sleep-away camp."

She seemingly keeps her comments somewhat oblique, but makes it clear that tensions rose when filming stopped.

"It was very, very sad. Let's just leave it at that," Reed said. "Attachments grow when you're working with the same people for so long. People are friends, people fall in love, people get in fights. We're not all robots in that way. Sure, things have gone on, and it's weird to have them be in the public eye."

If that’s so, then to the cast’s credit, the tensions rarely surfaced on-screen. Likewise, to various stars’ publicists’ credits, they never surfaced among the media, either. Keep in mind, stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson aren’t just playing two dull, pasty lovebirds – they really are two dull, pasty lovebirds. For more than a few fans, that’s probably part of the appeal of watching them.

But would it be that surprising? Hardly. The making of “Caddyshack” was actually somewhat riddled with tensions. Ted Knight, who played cantankerous Judge Smails, allegedly developed a stuffy reputation among his cast-mates. Chevy Chase and Bill Murray probably only shared one scene for a very good reason: the two supposedly disliked one another since their “Saturday Night Live” days.

More than likely, chalk it up as a “these things happen” scenario. We all work with people we can’t stand, but we suck it up and make the best since we know there are far more possibilities in that than watch a foundation fall apart because someone chiseled cracks into the foundation.

For the sake of people judging for themselves, the issue of Seventeen in question hits newsstands Nov. 22. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” hits theaters this weekend.
