Did Matt Bomer Lose Superman Role Because of Sexuality?

Did Matt Bomer lose out on a major role because of his sexual orientation?

Romance novel queen Jackie Collins certainly thinks so. In an interview with Gaydar Radio, Collins said:

"Matt Bomer, who is the most gorgeous looking guy and the star of “White Collar,” he was up for the role of “Superman.” He had not come out of the closet but people in the know knew he was gay. His audition tape went in and he called up the agent. Someone didn’t like him and told them he was gay. They said, ‘No, no, we can’t cast you.’ The reason he didn’t get cast was because he was gay. I think it should change but there are women out there who want to worship somebody. If Justin Bieber said he was gay, he’d lose all his little girl fans.

It’s a sad fact of life. So a lot of them get married, have a couple of kids and pretend to be straight."

No word on whether or not Bomer was actually up for the role, nor why Collins has this insider information, but if it’s true, it’s rather sad. While the “Man of Steel” role went to deliciously gorgeous Brit Henry Cavill, Bomer certainly would have had the looks and talent to step into the cape.

Bomer has been in the spotlight for his sexuality a lot lately, especially since Bomer is a fan favorite to star in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” adaptation in the works.

Screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis notably denounced Bomer’s ability to step in as the sensual Christian Grey, because Bomer is openly gay.

“Final word: there is no way in hell that the makers of "Fifty Shades of Grey" will hire an openly gay actor to play Christian Grey. Period.”
