Did Brad Pitt's Mother Write an Anti-Gay, Anti-Obama Rant?
by Andy NeuenschwanderDid the apple really fall this far from the tree?
Though Brad Pitt has traditionally been a bit quiet about his personal beliefs, his relationship with Angelina Jolie has opened him up a bit: in addition to his humanitarian work, he has openly supported gay marriage, citing it as a reason why he and Jolie hadn't tied the knot yet. And as far as politics goes, Pitt has voiced his support of President Obama for re-election.
So when word got out that Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Pitt, wrote a scathing anti-gay, anti-Obama rant for her local newspaper, you can understand that there was a bit of shock. Not necessarily for those who have followed stories of Pitt's mother (Pitt himself noted that the tabloids paint her as a "she-devil"), but for those who assumed that the generally open-minded Pitt came from an open-minded family.
Jane Pitt wrote the story in argument that Christians should still vote for Mitt Romney even though he is a Mormon. "Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon," says Pitt in her letter.
She continues, "any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage."
Yikes. The rhetoric is pretty harsh, and you have to be automatically wary of anyone who makes a point of using President Obama's middle name as though it's some kind of epithet.
There's a bit of confusion as to whether it was actually Pitt's mother who wrote the piece, as the paper originally said it wasn't her. Later, however, the paper changed that claim and confirmed that it was indeed Jane Pitt. In any case, Brad might have some PR to do...
