Diane Keaton Reveals Battle with Bulimia in New Memoir

Diane Keaton’s new memoir, Then Again, reveals that Hollywood’s legendary actress suffered from an eating disorder throughout her early 20s.

Keaton confesses that she was just 19 when she began to binge and purge, so that she could serve as an understudy for a staring role in the musical Hair. According to the Huffington Post, Diane was ordered to lose 10 pounds for the part, which required a nude sequence.

Keaton did what she thought she needed to do; however, the move sparked a five-year battle with bulimia.

"I was friendly looking, no Candice Bergen. The smile maybe, was all I had," she writes.

Luckily, psychotherapy helped her recover to the point where she could resist opening a half-gallon of rocky road ice cream. The memoir is expected to be published on Nov. 15.
