'Dexter' Showrunner Thinks Deb/Dex Relationship Reactions Are 'Funny'

'Dexter' Showrunner Thinks Deb/Dex Relationship Reactions Are 'Funny' The season six finale of "Dexter" brought a shocking ending which, if you're okay with some spoilers, you can read all about in our recap of the episode.

But there was another point in the episode that shocked a lot of people: the startling realization from Deb that she is, in fact, in love with Dexter, her adopted brother. That idea was introduced in the penultimate episode (and alluded to throughout the season, albeit lightly), and was confirmed in the finale.

It's a point that is dividing "Dexter" fans. Some are okay with the idea (the two are, after all, not blood-related), but others find the whole idea a little too creepy.

"Dexter" showrunner Scott Buck finds that reaction a bit humorous: "It's funny to me that people can accept the fact that Dexter is a serial killer without question but the minute his sister falls in love with him, it's love that makes people go, "Ew," and not the killing," said Buck in an interview with THR.

He has a point. We're fine with Dexter slicing up strangers (we often encourage it), but when Deb discovers that she is in love with the man she has known her entire life, we all cringe a bit. Are we just used to seeing Dexter get all stabby that we don't mind it anymore? Maybe, but there's something to be said about how well this show is written (and acted, by Michael C. Hall) that we're willing to throw our support behind a serial killer.

But we might not be able to for much longer: In the interview, Buck also noted that the team is "working under the assumption that these will be our final two seasons unless we're told differently." So it looks like Deb and Dex will have two seasons to work out their problems... good luck with that, guys.
