Details Emerge About Confirmed Katy Perry Concert Film

It was rumored in late 2011, but it's now confirmed. Grammy-nominated pop queen Katy Perry will be the latest star whose live concert experience will be getting a theatrical 3D treatment, The Huffington Post, E! Online and The Hollywood Reporter all report today.

Perry herself officially confirmed the project to E! correspondent Kelly Osbourne as she arrived recently at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. She added that it's set to be titled "Katy Perry: Part Of Me" and will theaters circa this year's Fourth of July weekend, before plug-tastically adding, "Go and see it and be a firework!"

Like Perry or not, the crew putting the documentary together boasts the right pedigree for high expectations. Directed by Magical Elves (yep, that's the directing team's actual name according to THR), execs Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz are two of the minds behind the Bravo unscripted hits "Project Runway" and "Top Chef", as well as having produced Justin Bieber's hit 3D concert film "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never".

She's a strong candidate for a sucessful big-screen presentation such as this. Though her voice sounds far better with the appropriate studio polish, she puts on a colorful, extravagent, feast-for-the-eyes stage show in same vein as previous 3D successes like Bieber and Miley Cyrus. The built-in fan base is certainly big enough to be a draw, as well.
