Demi Moore To AP: The Marriage To Ashton Kutcher Is Over

Demi Moore To AP: The Marriage To Ashton Kutcher Is Over Demi Moore has made it official to the Associated Press, in no uncertain terms: her marriage to Ashton Kutcher is over.

The 49-year-old Moore and 33-year-old Kutcher had been married six years since Sept. 24, 2005, but spent the marriage's last months mired in scandal over Kutcher's alleged infidelities.

"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation," Moore said via a prepared statement.

The marriage was Kutcher's first nuptials, Moore's third overall, and her first since her 2000 divorce from actor Bruce Willis. During their time together, Moore and Kutcher founded the DNA (or, Demi And Ashton) Foundation fighting the sexual exploitation of girls across the globe. The pair also actively supported the United Nations' efforts against worldwide human trafficking.

Those noble efforts were ultimately overshadowed by tabloid scrutiny. The Sept. 13 Star Magazine reported that an eyewitness could confirm Kutcher kissed an attractive blonde at a Los Angeles restaurant. The Sept. 27 issue carried a story claiming that Kutcher had sex with 21-year-old Britney Jones on the pair's couch while Moore was away. Star also later published accounts of text messages between the two, including Jones asking "When are you going to have an empty house again?" and Kutcher responding "I don't know end of the month maybe."

Kutcher struck back at Star over the stories, with language expliciting invoking "defamation of character" and saying "I hope my lawyer agrees."

Moore reacted with a very different tone - one that didn't so emphatically deny the trysts had happened.

Throughout the pair's relationship, they exchanged meaningful tweets before the eyes of millions of combined followers. On the pair's Sept. 24 six-year anniversary, Moore quoted the philosopher Epictetus: "When we are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself & study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger."

She also tweeted a picture of herself with closed eyes, and the caption "I see through you."

An Oct. 5 Us Weekly article claimed that on that very same anniversary - with Moore away promoting a recently completed Lifetime original movie - Kutcher spent the evening in a San Diego Hard Rock Hotel hot tub with a woman named Sarah Leal and another woman.

Shortly following Moore's announcement, Kutcher had his own reaction.

"I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi," Kutcher tweeted. "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and sometimes they fail."

Kutcher recently replaced Charlie Sheen starring alongside Jon Cryer on CBS' Emmy-nominated "Two and a Half Men." Moore can be seen in the recent films "Margin Call" and "Another Happy Day."
