The 'Deadpool' Movie Is Actually Happening, Set for 2016

The Merc with the Mouth is finally coming to the big screen!

Fox has officially slated a release for a "Deadpool" movie, giving the superhero flick a February 12, 2016 release. Just in time for Valentine's Day.

For the uninitiated, Deadpool (a.k.a. Wade Wilson) is a Marvel Comics character whose powers include a healing factor similar to Wolverine's, in addition to super-sass and the ability to eat an ungodly amount of chimichangas. However, Deadpool is what doctors would call "completely insane," as he has multiple voices in his head, makes reckless decisions, and seems to be aware that he's in a comic book.

This won't be the first time Deadpool will have appeared on screen: Ryan Reynolds took on the role for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." However, that was a strange variation of the character in a movie that wasn't a huge success.

Still, Fox put together some test footage for a Deadpool movie that recently leaked online. The reaction from fans was almost entirely positive, as the footage showed a Deadpool that was much more closely aligned with the character in the comics.

It remains to be seen whether Ryan Reynolds will take the role again, though he did provide the voice for the test footage.

If the movie is successful, it opens up the superhero movie playing field a bit for Fox, who can combine Deadpool with various X-Men franchise characters as they often appear together in comics.
