David Yates to Bring Us Tarzan
by Shannon KeirnanGood news for those of us that appreciate a man in a loincloth.
David Yates, who directed the final four “Harry Potter” flicks and gave us “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—Part 2” only last year, has signed on to produce the newest version of the much-made Edgar Rice Burrough’s story.
Will it fare better than the last Edgar Rice Burrough’s attempt, “John Carter or Mars,” which flopped fantastically?
Warner Bros. Pictures will be in charge of the project. No word yet on writers or cast, but rumors are already throwing out Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam, Alexander Skarsgard… and reportedly Warner Bros. is more than eager to get a hold of “The Dark Knight Rises” star Tom Hardy.
Jerry Weintraub, the producer behind “Ocean’s Eleven” has been behind this project for a while, but various directors have come and gone.
Do we need another Tarzan movie? The animated version came out in 1999, after all… are we due?
Who cares what the plot is, as long as Henry Cavill is in a loincloth!
One has to wonder, though... how close will the movie adhere to the plot of Burrough’s original novel?
The project has only just been announced, so details are hazy, but this is a good one for speculation. If nothing else, it is certainly an opportunity for a lot of on-screen man candy, right?
Who would you like to see strutting about the jungle with shiny abs and messy hair? Cavill? Skarsgard? Someone entirely different?
And which lady has the scream-pipes and ability to pull of leopard print that will enable her to step in and play Jane?
