David Tennant and Billie Piper Return For 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary Special

David Tennant and Billie Piper Return For 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary Special “Doctor Who” fans who follow the show got a special surprise announcement today via the show’s Facebook page.

“We're thrilled to confirm that David Tennant and Billie Piper will join Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 50th Anniversary special! And not only that, acting legend John Hurt will also be guest-starring!”

The statement was accompanied by a picture of Tennant and Piper laughing and peering excitedly through a window.

This will mark the first time since 2010 that Tennant, who played the 10th Doctor, will appear on the show, as well as the first time Piper, who played the infamous Rose Tyler, has returned since Tennant’s final episode.

Current Doctor Matt Smith says fans “will not be disappointed” by the episode, which airs in 3D on November 23rd, and “manages to pay homage to everything—and look forward.”

"I read it and I clapped at the end. I think it's hilarious; it's epic and it's vast," he said.

The two have been rumored to be making a return, but in January Piper shot down the gossip that she would be appearing.

"I wasn't asked, no. I think Matt Smith may have said, in passing or in jest, it would be nice. I think maybe he said that and then it became something quite different, but no."

The BBC will also be airing “An Adventure in Space and Time” along with the anniversary special, which will explore the origins of the show.

Until Tennant and Piper return in November, you can catch Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman (as Clara) on new episodes of Doctor Who beginning today with “The Bells of Saint John.”
