David Lynch Leaves 'Twin Peaks' Reboot Over Money Issues
by Andy Neuenschwander
Sorry "Twin Peaks" fans: David Lynch will not be fire walking with you.
The director has departed the upcoming "Twin Peaks" reboot on Showtime, citing money issues as his reason for quitting the project.
"Dear Twitter Friends," Lynch wrote on Twitter. "Showtime did not pull the plug on ‘Twin Peaks.' After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.”
It would seem that the money issues were less about Lynch's salary and more about funding the show itself, as Lynch believed the show's meager budget wouldn't satisfy his vision for the reboot.
“This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing,” he continued. He made sure to comfort fans, letting them know that the show "may still be very much alive at Showtime."
"I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently," he added.
Whoever takes over for Lynch will have big shoes to fill: not only is Lynch a revered director, "Twin Peaks" has also become a cult hit over the years and expectations for the reboot are high.
Should Showtime continue with the project, they'll need to find a replacement soon: "Twin Peaks" was set to start production this year with a planned premiere sometime in 2016.
