Big Bikini Slip-Up: David Letterman's 'Late Show' Accidentally Leaks SI Swimsuit Cover Before Show

Big Bikini Slip-Up: David Letterman's 'Late Show' Accidentally Leaks SI Swimsuit Cover Before Show Letterman got scooped on his scoop.

David Letterman’s "Late Show" got to do the big reveal of the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover this year, and all did not go according to plan. The reveal is massively hyped for a few days before the event actually took place, and the cover is a huge secret – not even the “winning” model knows she is on the cover until it happens.

So when the reveal was given off to Letterman's show, no one guessed that it would be a disaster!

The cover was blown up to be a dozen or more stories tall and placed on the side of a building in New York City. Gee, how many people do you think walk around in the city and see things going on each day? Thousands? Millions?

Anyway, the cover was revealed during the taping of Dave’s show and then quickly covered back up. But not quick enough that people on the street couldn’t get pictures before hand. Those pictures were put up on Twitter and Facebook before CBS could say oops.

From Gothamist:

"Last night David Letterman scored 'a worldwide scoop'—as the Associated Press enviously puts it—when he was the first person ON EARTH to reveal the cover of the momentous 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. But proving once again that the old media dinosaurs just can't compete with today's instant internet news-hounds, Letterman himself was scooped when, six hours before his show aired, Twitter user *&*&))& published a photograph of the cover plastered on a giant billboard near the Late Show studios."

Oops. Letterman didn’t comment on the leak…yet. It will probably be included in his monologue tonight though. Do you think he’ll complain about Twitterers?
