David Arquette is Engaged - Right After Courteney Cox Announces Hers

Not one to be long outdone, apparently, David Arquette has announced his engagement!

Arquette popped the question to on-again, off-again girlfriend, entertainment reporter girlfriend Christina McLarty, during a family dinner in Malibu with their 2-month-old son Charlie West, and Arquette's daughter Coco from his marriage to Courteney Cox.

Arquette and family arrived at an ocean-view restaurant, and a time after they had been seated, Arquette brought them ouside. At sunset, he knelt and proposed to McLarty.

"Coco, did you know?" she was overheard asking later. The little girl replied, "Maybe! Engaged! Engaged!"

Not to steal anyone's thunder here, especially after such a pretty proposal, but this news follows closely on the heels of the announcement that Arquette's ex, Courteney Cox, is also engaged. Perhaps Arquette felt a sudden pressure to settle down with the mother of his son?

In June, Cox's Snow Patrol boyfriend Johnny McDaid popped the question. The two have only been dating for six months, but friends say McDaid's mellow attitude suits Cox perfectly and their relationship is admirably chill.

The "Cougar Town" star's engagement announcement came in quietly as well. Cox and McDaid posted a lovey-dovey photo of themselves on their Twitter accounts, with the announcement "I'm engaged to him!" and "I'm engaged to her!"

So do these two engagements have anything in common? Perhaps a little edge of competition, there?

Maybe not. A pal close to Cox says that she and her ex have a good relationship.

"They get along, so it's really easy for everyone."
