'The Dark Knight Rises' Ending Shrouded in Secrecy

Wait, so let's make sure this is absolutely clear.

The follow-up to one of movie history's most successful blockbusters - which is currently shooting, and due in theaters in 2012 - doesn't have an official ending yet?

From what ContactMusic reports, that's the current gameplan for Christopher Nolan's "Batman" finale, "The Dark Knight Rises." With the production having already shot in major cities on multiple continents, Nolan hasn't yet committed his trilogy swan-song's finale to paper. And it's all in the interest of making sure not a word leaks before he's ready, according to those closest to the production.

The newer people on the film go to his office to read the script," explained Gary Oldman, who has played Commissioner Jim Gordon in both "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight."

"They sent mine out, but it had to be hand-delivered directly to me and nobody else. And the final few pages were missing. I went along and talked to Christopher and in person about the ending. Then I locked it away in my head."

Oldman's co-star and "Batman" newcomer Joseph Gordon-Levitt promises fans they "will have the best experience if (they) just trust" Nolan without seeking spoilers.

Nestor Carbonell, who played Gotham City Mayor Anthony Garcia in "The Dark Knight" and will do so again in "The Dark Knight Rises" has remarked in the past on how at-ease he's felt on both sets, his first major films. But he also backs Oldman and Levitt's take on Nolan's insistant secrecy.

"The true fan doesn't really want to know. You want to know, but you don't. I think it's great," Carbonell said. "I didn't get a script for 'Dark Knight Rises', or even 'Dark Knight'."
