'Daredevil' on Netflix Has New Showrunner
by EGThe first of Netflix’s Marvel-based slate of original programming has had a bit of a shake-up at the top. The new showrunner for “Daredevil” is a new name, but like the old one, he comes from the Joss-Whedon stable of creative professionals who seem to be the go-to guys for Marvel stories these days.
The Netflix show will be run by Steven DeKnight, whose previous credits include work on “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Dollhouse.” He also worked on the CW’s “Smallville” and was the showrunner of “Spartacus” on Starz for three seasons. On “Daredevil,” DeKnight replaces Drew Goddard, who has worked on “Buffy” and “Lost.” Goddard will stay in the Marvel Universe, though, as he takes on writing duties on the “Spider-Man” spin-off “Sinister Six.”
“Daredevil” will be the first series to come from a deal between Netflix and Marvel. The deal will also produce series featuring Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Defenders and Jessica Jones. Between the numerous Marvel film franchises (The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, X-Men, etc.) and the Marvel series on ABC (“Agents of SHIELD,” “Agent Carter”), the new Netflix series will help to continue the takeover of the American entertainment world by Stan Lee’s costumed characters.
