Danica Patrick To Skip Friday Morning Daytona Practice Following Crash
by Sean ComerShe's unhurt following her scary Thursday Gatorade Duel qualifying race crash at Daytona, but Danica Patrick will skip Friday morning's practice and give her team added preparation time before Sunday's Daytona 500, reports FOXSports.com.
The team will reportedly need the time so that Patrick's back-up GoDaddy.com No. 10 Chevy can be ready when she makes her Daytona 500 premiere this weekend. She'll instead limit herself to the one-hour afternoon NASCAR Sprint Cup practice, so that her team can have the car "perfect."
A crash during the last Duel lap Thursday destroyed her primary car, ripping off her front end completely.
"I'm just very disappointed that the car got crashed with two corners to go," Patrick said following the wreck, according to the Associated Press. "It's not how we wanted to roll into Sunday. We wanted to just be cool, calm and collected with no damage. But like I said, maybe that backup car's fast."
Though not entirely sure what caused the wreck, Patrick supposed that she "just got hit" coming into the last lap of the 150-mile qualifier, the first of two races.
Race-winner, and Patrick's team owner during her part-time Sprint Cup schedule this year, Tony Stewart was keeping an eye out for her during the race. He said he would have a better bead on what caused the crash when he gets time to review race footage later, but said that right now, Patrick has only her peers' respect in her own sights.
"It's hard for her now because she's trying to gain the confidence of the guys around her that she's solid and is going to make good decisions," Stewart said. "I think there's more aggression and confidence in her than what she showed here today. It shows her poise and what she's trying to do to gain the other drivers' confidence."
