'Daily Show' Host Trevor Noah Already Being Protested Over Offensive Tweets
by Andy Neuenschwander
Trevor Noah hasn't even sat down at the "Daily Show" desk yet, but he's already having a rough start.
Noah, 31, has been selected as the new host of "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central after Jon Stewart departs later this year. Previously a mostly unknown comic, Noah is now in the spotlight...and some jokes he's tweeted in the past have already surfaced to cause him trouble.
Some of the jokes target fat women, such as one Noah tweeted back in 2011: "'Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I'm sexy!' - fat chicks everywhere," he wrote.
Others are being viewed as anti-semitic and are drawing a lot of ire from Jewish fans of "The Daily Show," of which there are many due in part to Stewart's Jewish identity.
"Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn't look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my German car," Noah tweeted. Another read, "Behind every successful Rap Billionaire is a double as rich Jewish man. #BeatsByDreidel."
Today, Noah seemed to respond to critics with this tweet, which he very quickly deleted:
Comedy Central has yet to comment, but with angry Twitter users up in arms, some sort of statement may be coming soon.
