'Dads' Season 1, Episode 4: 'Funny Girl' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanEli is making out with a girl on the couch when his father interrupts with annoyed groaning. He goes to use the downstairs bathroom, scaring off the woman.
Veronica asks Warner about finding a voice for their Wall Street Game... as their regular voice guy was arrested when he was found to be the East Bay Strangler. Eli comes in, pouting because he didn't get laid, and never will while he lives with his dad.
Veronica says that's too bad, since her hot friend Anne is now single.
Edna waits for David to finish his meal so she can clean, but he drags it out as much as possible. She vacuums the remnants off his plate.
Eli comes home and tells David he's going out that night, so Eli can get laid. David will happen to remember he is supposed to be somewhere, and go to the movies. Eli gives him cash.
Warner goes to his home to find Camilla finger painting so her son won't get teased at school. He tells her about looking for a voice actor who sounds like a businessman... as Crawford comes in on the phone, bargaining for Girl Scout Cookies. Camilla suggests Crawford be the voice.
Eli brings home his date, and David obligingly remembers the "thing" he has to go do. Anne annoys David with one of her jokes, however, and he decides he is suddenly coming down with something.
The next morning, Eli asks Edna to step in and interfere with David, but she lacks the language skills. David claims he saved Eli from a nightmare of a date. Eli accuses him of making a snap judgement.
Crawford begins his voice over while Eli explains what happened with his dad. Veronica agrees that Anne is awful (but one of her best friends). Warner suggests that Eli just go to Anne's house.
Eli does go to Anne's, and gently suggests that she doesn't need to do all her funny characters. He likes her for herself. They kiss. It only lasts a few moments, however, and the funny girl is back.
Crawford is doing well in his voice over. When he finds out that the point of the game, however, is to kill businessmen, Crawford refuses to do it, since Wall Street put him where he is now. Warner reminds him that now he sleeps on his couch, and Crawford decides he'll stay in the sound booth and refuses to leave.
Eli goes home, alone, and David theorizes that Anne is starting to annoy him. Eli stubbornly refuses to admit that David is right, and pretends he's in love with Anne. David suggests she move in. Anne calls, and Eli reluctantly invites her to move in with them. Anne agrees since her lease is up.
At work, Eli figures he just has to stick with Anne until his dad dies, and then he'll be free. In an attempt to scare Crawford out of the booth, Warner pipes in Democratic speeches. Camilla comes in with her plan... she brings in the Girl Scount who has his cookies. Reluctantly, he comes out, but realizes they're not the right cookies. The little girl demands her money and kicks him, into the booth where she continues beating him up. Warner records it.
Anne is all moved in, to the despair of David and even Edna, who tries to kill her with a plunger. Finally, Eli admits David was right and asks for help.
Apparently, David can hypnotize people. They carry out a sleeping Anne, and run into Camilla and Warner holding a knocked out Crawford in the elevator.
