'Da Vinci's Demons' Gets a Second Season... After Just One Episode!
by Shannon KeirnanStarz certainly believes it has a hit on its hands… “Da Vinci’s Demons,” which premiered Friday, has already gotten a second season order. After just one episode.
The series is a historical fantasy and follows the story of Leonardo da Vinci’s youth in Florence during the Renaissance.
Starz teases that its show “reveals a portrait of a young man tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He is a heretic intent on exposing the lies of religion. An insurgent seeking to subvert an elitist societ. A bastard son who years for legitimacy with his father… Leonardo must take up the fight against foes who use history to suppress the truth. A hero armed only with genius, da Vinic stands along against the darkness within, and the darkness without.”
With a lead-in from the popular “Spartacus,” the show already had a good chance of succeeding. However, the 2.1 million viewers who tuned in made it the highest-rated premiere ever for a Starz original series. Before the second episode has even aired, the network has called for an addition season.
The showrunner for the series, David S. Goyer, is also known for co-writing the “Dark Knight” trilogy, and his “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavil, premiers this summer.
Production for season two of the hero fighting to “set knowledge free” is expected to begin in Wales in May. Episodes will hit the air in 2014.
