CW Officially Cancels '90210'
by Zack WellsIt is no real shocker, but The CW has officially pulled the plug on “90210” today, after 5 full seasons. The series, a remake of the hit show “Beverly Hills, 90210”, focuses on students in West Beverly Hills High School, and their drama-filled lives. Apparently, if your show isn’t about ghosts, super heroes vampires, angels, demons, or anything else remotely Supernatural, it doesn’t really fit.
The CW, with such wildly popular shows as “Arrow”, “The Vampire Diaries”, and “Supernatural”, announced today that “90210” will end with the season 5 finale, set to air May 13th. The show, receiving rather poor ratings, has hung on well past its prime, which makes you wonder how it managed to stay on the network’s roster for 5 whole seasons.
However, with more and more new shows being added, most of the in the science fiction genre, it should be no surprise that the network no longer has room for a teen high school drama, especially after they canned “Emily Owens, MD” and “Gossip Girl”. Perhaps they are focusing on a different target audience, though their recent inclusion of “The Carrie Diaries”, the prequel series to “Sex and the City”, makes you wonder if they’re really going to shift.
Either way, if you don’t hunt monsters or villains and have crazy chiseled cheekbones and 6 or more defined abs, you no longer have a place on this network. Whatever they’re doing is working, though, as The CW draws in more viewers than ever.
Make sure you tune in to bid them farewell on Monday, May 13th at 8:00 PM EST.
