CW Gives 'Jane the Virgin' and 'The Flash' Full-Season Orders
by Andy NeuenschwanderFans of superheroes and immaculate conceptions, rejoice!
The CW has given full-season orders to two freshman shows, "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin." That's a perfect record so far for the network in 2014, as the two shows were the only ones that premiered this Fall.
The pickups should come as no surprise, as both shows have seen great ratings and critical praise. "The Flash" had a particularly impressive performance in the ratings, premiering to 4.2 million total viewers with a 1.9 demo rating, making it the top-rated premiere in the network's history.
While "Jane the Virgin" hasn't seen quite as many viewers (its second episode had about 1.75 million total, up about 9 percent over the premiere), it can boast major praise from TV critics, who are hailing star Gina Rodriguez as a "breakout star" and one of the best performances of the Fall season.
"Flash" has the advantage, though, of being a spin-off of sorts to fellow CW action series "Arrow," not to mention a long-standing DC Comics property. It comes at a good time as well, considering that DC Comics and Warner Bros. have announced their upcoming movie schedule through 2020, which include "Justice League" movies and a solo movie starring The Flash.
With these orders, the two series will fill out their back end and air through the rest of the 2014-2015 season, with "Flash" having 23 episodes in total and "Jane the Virgin" airing 22.
