CW Cancels 'Carrie Diaries' and Other Shows, Renews 3 More, Adds 4 Brand New Series
by Andy NeuenschwanderIt was both a brutal and a joyous day at The CW today, as the network axed three shows and renewed three more. So, did your favorite CW show make the cut?
If you're a sci-fi fan, probably not: "The Tomorrow People" and "Star-Crossed" have officially been canceled. The third show to get the axe was "The Carrie Diaries," which ended its second season in January; the "Sex and the City" prequel pulled in an average of 820,000 viewers per episode.
However, if you're a fan of "The 100" or "Beauty and the Beast," you're in luck: The CW renewed both series, and also gave another season to "Hart of Dixie," which has been on the bubble seemingly since its first season. Unfortunately for "Beauty" and "Dixie," both shows have been pushed to Fridays and/or the summer, giving them little chance of getting another renewal past this one.
The moves were made in part to make room for the network's new programming, which include "iZombie," a series based on a comic book that centers on a zombie who can pass for a regular girl and works in a coroner's office so she can eat plenty of brains; "Jane the Virgin," about a woman who is accidentally impregnated through artificial insemination; and "The Messengers," about a group of people who unknowingly prevent the apocalypse from happening when an object smashes into Earth.
Also among the new pickups is "The Flash," a spinoff of "Arrow" that isn't much of a surprise in getting a series order. Sadly for "Supernatural" fans, its spinoff "Bloodlines" was not picked up.
As for the fate of the network's other shows, "Arrow," "Reign," "Supernatural," "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" have already been renewed for another season.
