'Conviction' Won't Get a Second Season on ABC
by EG
ABC hasn't officially cancelled the legal drama Conviction, but the series got a de facto cancellation this week when the network announced that it won't buy any more than the series' first 13 episodes. There's also a chance that the series could disappear for good after next week.
Conviction joins fellow freshman series Notorious in cancellation limbo. Both series now have received news that their networks don't want any more episodes, but the respective networks, wanting to keep their options for airing already-purchased episodes open, have been unwilling to officially hand out cancellation notices.
Conviction is set to air in its Monday-night time slot through next week, but after that, it's unclear where the series will go to play out the rest of its 13-episode run. ABC isn't saying where or when the series will come back, although sources say that the network is committed to airing all of the existing episodes.
The wait goes on, then, for the first real cancellation of the 2016 fall TV season. Both Conviction and Notorious look like good candidates for the dubious honor, but in the absence of official decisions, some other under-performing series could slip in and steal the title away from them.
