'Community' Video Game Recreates the Scene that Chevy Chase Refused to Shoot

'Community' Video Game Recreates the Scene that Chevy Chase Refused to Shoot Last week, thanks to Reddit, we finally learned what exactly was behind that big fight between Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase. What it came down to was that Harmon wanted to shoot a particularly heartwarming tag for the episode "Digital Estate Planning" (the 8-bit one) on the last day of shooting, but Chevy didn't feel like doing it.

The scene was as follows: Abed, having picked up the code for the video game, approaches Pierce and tells him that he modified it a bit. Pierce starts playing and finds that Abed created a game where Pierce could throw a baseball at his dad's head and receive a "that's my boy" each time, essentially allowing him to play catch with his dead (and generally disapproving) father. Pierce plays the game, then hugs Abed.

The people on Reddit thought that was just way too "awww" to pass up, so one industrious individual went about setting things right. Reddit users created a simple game in the style of "Digital Estate Planning" that allows you to do exactly what Harmon described in the tag scene: play as Pierce and throw baseballs at his dad's head.

Essentially, the game is an extension of the full Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne game that was also created by Reddit users, and mirrors the game played in the episode.

"Community" writer Megan Ganz commented on the effort: "Wow, that brought the tears. I'll show it to the cast first thing tomorrow. Thank you so much for making this!"
