'Community' Season 3, Episode 2 Recap - 'Geography of Global Conflict'

'Community' Season 3, Episode 2 Recap - 'Geography of Global Conflict' Before last night's episode of "Community," showrunner Dan Harmon tweeted, "I couldn't bring Party Down back but I could put Martin Starr on Community." We thank you for that, Dan.

Starr, a was in to play Professor Cligoris (either pronunciation is correct), a history teacher at Greendale who might be a little too into his subject, and who has to deal with having both Annie and Asian Annie in his class. That's right, just as there's a new sheriff in town (Chang, whom we'll get to later), there's a new Annie in town as well. And she's just as overachieving and Type A as Annie is.

The two at least manage to stay polite until Asian Annie steals Annie's idea for a Model UN club at Greendale. Luckily, Cligoris has just the answer: a Model UN Battle Royale. It's as silly/awesome as it sounds, especially when Abed starts questioning the logic of having two United Nations and decides that there must be two Earths.

During all this, Britta is concerned that she's losing her rebellious hippie edge when she sees that a friend of her has been locked up in Syria. Thus begins a beautiful connection between her and Chang, who is feeling underused as the new security guard. Britta does everything she can to rebel, including kicking over trash cans (almost) and "making a mess." It ends with a taser, and the fourth chorus of "Hello" by Lionel Richie.

Meanwhile, the Model UN Battle Royale comes down to the wire, but when a really bad fart distracts the team, they lose to Asian Annie's team and Annie throws a fit. "You're acting like a schoolgirl, and not in the hot way!" exclaims Jeff, and immediately regrets it due to the creepiness factor.

That leads us to the deeper meaning behind all the silly stuff: it's all about Jeff and Annie. Jeff reveals that it's been easier for him to view her as a kid and talk down to her in order to avoid being the creepy old guy who likes the 20-year-old. But now that she's acting more mature, it's getting harder not to see her as a woman...nah, it's still creepy. The two of them agree, and once again fans everywhere give a collective shout of "Aw, come ON!"

Hey, you didn't think it'd be that easy, did you?

It was an homageless episode, but still one that had a lot of fun stuff: Abed's incoherent mumbling of his plan while waiting for a cut-away was classic "Community," and it's great to see that the show hasn't lost its meta touch. And it was interesting that Martin Starr had some interactions with Abed, who probably would have gotten along really well with Roman, Starr's character on "Party Down."

Troy & Abed Tag: Troy and Abed play "Operation" on a sleeping Pierce by removing his watch and glasses using pencils.
