Is 'Community' Movie a Go?
by EG
Sometimes it seems like the TV series Community and its fans get whatever they want. The show's famous rallying cry, "six seasons and a movie," looked like wishful thinking when NBC cancelled the series after five seasons and content producers like Netflix and Hulu showed no interest in picking up the series. Then Yahoo! Screen agreed to produce that all-important sixth season, which came in just under the wire before the Yahoo! content-producing venture folded.
But what about the movie? Is that going to happen?
Series creator Dan Harmon says yes.
"It will happen," he told Larry King recently.
The big question is when it will happen. Harmon admits that he's not ready to write the script yet, but he also acknowledges that he can't wait forever. Many of the series' original cast members, including Joel McHale, Jonathan Banks and Ken Jeong, are currently busy with other series, so scheduling could be a problem in the near future, but Harmon doesn't want to wait until everyone is "out of work" before kicking off a new Community project.
A Community movie also doesn't have an obvious home at the moment. A year ago, Harmon seemed to assume that Yahoo! would produce the project, but that company's big losses - much of which can be attributed to the price it paid for Community - leave that solution in doubt.
