The Comedy Team Behind 'Bridesmaids' Reunites for a New Project

It's about time.

If you loved "Bridesmaids" - and, according to box office numbers, statistically you did - you can rejoice. Writers of the raunchy romp, Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, are reuniting to develop a new buddy comedy coming out of TriStar Pictures.

Wiig describes it as a film following "best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not to deep to begin with."

What's more, Wiig, who shared an Oscar nomination with Mumolo for the "Bridesmaids" script, is likely to direct. This will be her directing debut.

"I've been wanting to direct for some time now," Wiig says. "This seems like the perfect first project."

It's also a good opportunity to get women more involved in Hollywood, a cause Wiig promotes. In 2013, the top-grossing films only allotted women 16 percent of the writing, directing, producing, editing, and cinematography opportunities. Only four of the films slated for release this year were made by women filmmakers.

Wiig says she and Mumolo are "excited" to be working on the script.

"We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave," they said. "We found one that's nice and big. We're putting a couch in there."

This buddy comedy has big shoes to fill... but it should be big numbers and big laughs if Wiig and Mumolo can pull it off.
