Colin Farrell Might Star in 'True Detective' Season Two

Colin Farrell Might Star in 'True Detective' Season Two Will the next great American detective be Irish?

Deadline is reporting that Colin Farrell is in "deep talks" to play one of the leading roles in season two of HBO's "True Detective." If cast, Farrell would take the torch from Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who starred in the first season of the anthology show.

Each season of "True Detective" will feature a new cast and a new location, though HBO and series creator Nic Pizzolatto have been exceptionally secretive about any details for the upcoming season.

Equally hushed have been any details about the cast, though "Zero Dark Thirty" star Jessica Chastain is one name that has been thrown around a bit. Farrell is the only other name to be considered a serious possibility, and Deadline seems confident that he'll end up in the show, however rumors are starting up that "Friday Night Lights" alum Taylor Kitsch might join as well.

Meanwhile, yesterday's Emmy nominations were kind to the first season of the show, earning nods for Best Drama and two Best Actor nominations, one for Harrelson and one for McConaughey. Nominations in technical categories bring the show's total number of nominations to 12, which is very impressive for a debut series and equals the number of nominations for "Orange is the New Black." By comparison, "Breaking Bad" earned 16 for its final season and "Game of Thrones" netted the most with 19.

Of course, you could sort of add one more nomination to the list for "True Detective" if you count the Emmy-nominated parody that "The Soup" made.
