Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn Confirmed for 'True Detective' Season Two

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn Confirmed for 'True Detective' Season Two It's official: "True Detective" season two has its stars!

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have been confirmed as the stars of the new season, according to the show's official Facebook page. The two actors will be taking over for Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who headed up the first season.

The news follows months of speculation over the show's casting, which included rumors that Jessica Chastain and Taylor Kitsch were also being seriously considered. It's likely that Kitsch is out with the casting of these two, but Chastain might still be a possibility, especially considering the flack the show got for its lack of female roles (who weren't mistresses, prostitutes or plot devices).

Creator Nic Pizzolatto mentioned in an interview that the second season would feature three leads, so whether it's Chastain or someone else, there's still a third main role to be filled.

Like "American Horror Story," "True Detective" is an anthology show, so each season will feature new characters, new locations and new stories. The second season will be set in California, though Pizzolatto noted that it will not be Los Angeles. Rather, it will take place in some of the state's "lesser known venues."

As for the main characters, there's hope with these two actors that the second season might have a little more levity than the first. The comedic moments between McConaughey's Rust Cohle and Harrelson's Marty Hart were some of the most memorable in the series, so having two actors capable of comedy (Vaughn being specifically known for his comedic abilities) could bring a new tone to the second season.

Jeremy Lin will direct two episodes in the season, which should begin production soon for a late 2014 or early 2015 release on HBO.
