'The Cleveland Show' Season 4, Episode 14: 'The Hangover Part Tubbs' Recap
by Zack Wells“The Cleveland Show”, season 4, episode 14, “The Hangover Part Tubbs”
Rallo and Roberta stand in their front yard, campaigning for Donna to gain a seat in the school board, a first seat opening in 16 years. Cleveland shows up and thoroughly embarrasses Donna. She tells him to behave until the elections are over.
At The Broken Stool, Cleveland and his pals play “The Hurt Locker” game. He asks Franklin, a man who just magically appeared in this episode, to disarm a box of C4 he set up, and is blown to pieces in the process. So long Franklin.
At Franklin’s funeral, Donna yells at Cleveland, saying that blowing up guys outside of bars are not ways that he should be behaving.
In the school gym, Cleveland Junior sits out of the activities by forgetting his school uniform. The principal informs him that he’s missed so many classes that he has to fail him, unless he signs up for a sport.
Junior tries out for the diving team. After struggling to climb up the ladder, he makes a perfect dive, wowing the coach and landing a spot on the team. He’s excited until he sees the uniform; a Speedo.
At the bar, the men honor the memory of Franklin, and they ask why Cleveland isn’t at the school board candidate’s dinner with his wife. Thinking he forgot, he rushes to the dinner.
When he gets there, he sees Donna on stage with a replacement stand-in Cleveland. He goes to confront them, and Donna has security throw him out.
He waits for her to return home, instead. He confronts her about the man, and she says he is Ebert Williams, and she hired him to be her campaign husband, since Cleveland is too embarrassing. She got the recommendation of Ebert from Cleveland’s father, who has been using him for years as a Cleveland stand-in.
In the school, the coach chases after Junior. He has skipped all 6 practices, and if he skips the meet, he’ll be kicked off the team. Rather than put on the Speedo, Junior decides to quit school.
At a fancy lunch, Donna talks to Ebert, saying she should fire him, but that she needs him to get the seat on the board. She informs Cleveland, and he seems all right with it, but he questions what happened to the Donna he used to know. He urges her to drink with them, and she agrees to one beer.
Cut to later, and Cleveland, his gang, and Donna and blacked out at the Richmond International Raceway, 4 hours away from their home. Donna panics because she has a debate in an hour.
He flags down Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart, (and Kasey Kahne), and the two men agree to get her back to Stoolbend in time for her debate.
Meanwhile, Junior tries to find work as a day laborer. However, as the workers work up a sweat, the strip down to Speedos, he quickly runs away.
On the way back, Donna and Dale Earnhardt Jr. stop since he needs gas. He doesn’t have his pit crew at the ready, so he gives up hope, but Donna won’t go down without a fight, and she acts as a one-woman pit crew.
The guys get Donna and Cleveland back just in time. She reveals that Cleveland is her husband, and gives a long speech about embarrassment, and saying she’s proud of her husband.
This encourages Junior to suit up and win for his team.
Four hours later, they get a call with the results of the vote. Cleveland said she lost by four votes, but that it triggered the state’s automatic recount provision.
It sets up a “next time…” sequence, which ends with Donna losing the vote once again, but Fox urges us to forget that and tune in next week anyway.
