Civil War's Spider-Man Will Be 'Grounded'

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the directors of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo, gave some very vague hints about what we can expect when Spider-Man is introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Foremost among the Webslinger's characteristics, his ordinariness is what the Russos will be focusing on.

First of all, they intend to emphasize the fact that Peter Parker, Spider-Man's secret identity, is a high-school student when he becomes a superhero. In Civil War, Spidey will be played by Tom Holland, who's currently 19 years old. Previous film incarnations of Spider-Man have been played by Tobey Maguire, who was 27 when his version of the hero debuted, and Andrew Garfield, who was 29.

The new film will also play up Parker's humble roots.

"A character growing up with his aunt in New York, a single income family. Where would they live? What would that look like? Where could they afford to live? We asked ourselves all those questions," said Joe Russo.

Captain America: Civil War will hit theaters on May 6. In addition to Spider-Man, the film will also feature many characters from the Avengers franchise, including Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Vision and Scarlet Witch, as well as Paul Rudd's Ant-Man and new character Black Panther.
