Cinemax Picks Up New Series from 'Walking Dead' Creator
by Andy Neuenschwander
If you're a fan of Robert Kirkman and "The Walking Dead," you might want to get yourself a subscription to Cinemax.
The pay-cable network has just given a series order to "Outcast," a new show based on the comics books of the same name, created by Kirkman.
Instead of zombies and a post-apocalyptic world, "Outcast" focuses on exorcism and a world that could potentially be approaching the apocalypse. The story centers on a man named Kyle Barnes (played by "Almost Famous" star Patrick Fugit) who has dealt with spiritual possession his whole life. As he tries to uncover the truth of what is happening to him, he learns of a greater conflict that could spell doom for the human race.
In addition to creating the source material, Kirkman wrote the pilot for "Outcast" himself.
Cinemax offered the show a 10-episode order, but a premiere date has not yet been set. The network may choose to run it concurrently with "The Walking Dead" or may avoid the zombie show's airing season in order to avoid missing out on viewers.
