Christopher Nolan Wrote a Comic to Give 'Interstellar' More Backstory

Those who saw Christopher Nolan's newest mind-bending cinematic offering in the past couple of weeks might have walked away from the theater with a number of questions. One of them might have been, "What exactly happened with Dr. Mann?"
Though the movie did a pretty good job of insinuating what Dr. Mann went through when he landed on his planet through a little bit of well-placed exposition and some shifty glances from surprise cameo Matt Damon, one got the feeling that there was a whole other story happening on that planet while the rest of the crew was gallivanting off in the tidal waves near Gargantua.
If you want to know exactly what happened, Christopher Nolan has a comic book just for you.
The short comic shows Dr. Mann's interactions with his robot companion, KIPP, after landing on his desperately cold planet as part of the Lazarus missions. In the short story, you can already start to see how Mann's mind starts to shift, and how his plan to get off his rock comes to be.
For the project, Wired paired Nolan with artist Sean Gordon Murphy to make the short story. It's a quick read, but it fills in a lot of the gaps.
