Chris Pratt Lands the Lead in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Funnyman turned action hero Chris Pratt, from such films as “Zero Dark Thirty”, “The Five-Year Engagement”, and “Moneyball”, has landed the role of Star-Lord, aka Peter Quill, in Marvel Studio’s upcoming adaptation of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series of comics, set to be directed by James Gunn.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” (the original team first debuting in 1969), did not appear in their own comic series until the early 1990s. But this film adaptation will focus on the secondary team, first introduced in 2008. The team, including members such as Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Rocket Raccoon, travel the galaxy, taking a proactive approach to protection, rather than waiting and reacting.

Among their missions, they encounter Thanos, which, for anyone who has seen Marvel’s “The Avengers”, may recognize from the scene played during the credits. It’s no big secret that the “Guardians of the Galaxy” team up with “The Avengers” to protect the earth from Thanos. What does this mean for the future of the Marvel cinema universe? I smell crossover potential!

Along with Chris Pratt, there are other celebrities in talks of joining the space crew, including Joel Edgerton from “Zero Dark Thirty”, Jack Huston from “Boardwalk Empire”, Jim Sturgess from “Cloud Atlas”, Lee Pace from “Lincoln”, and newcomer Eddie Redmayne from “Les Miserables”. There are also rumors of Zachary Levi and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; however, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has declined due to other film commitments.

The film is expected to be released August 1st, 2014, so be sure to keep an eye out. If you loved “The Avengers”, you’ll be sure to enjoy “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
