Chris Hemsworth Stars in Ghostbusters International Trailer

When Sony released the first trailer for its new all-female version of Ghostbusters last week, it was met with predictable controversy among some fans of the original film franchise. Now a new international version of the trailer is likely to fan the controversial flames, given its prominent focus on one of the film's minor characters.
The new film, which is directed by Bridesmaids' Paul Feig and will hit theaters on July 15, is a sequel set about 30 years after the events of the 1984 original. A new team of paranormal warriors, played by Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, assembles to do battle with an unnamed villain who has invented "a device that amplifies paranormal activity."
Since the announcement of the project, vocal critics on social media have aired their disapproval of the gender swapping of the new film, and the first trailer has only made those voices louder. Criticisms have included the claim that the new film is more a rehash of the original - as evidenced by the trailer's reuse of the original's library-ghost gag - and that Leslie Jones' character appears to be a racial stereotype.
The international trailer steps even deeper into the realm of gender politics by increasing the screen time enjoyed by Chris Hemsworth, who plays the new team's receptionist. Presumably Hemsworth's character is a minor one compared to the film's female stars, but the new version of the trailer puts him in the forefront. The trailer even gives Hemsworth more lines than McKinnon, who doesn't get to speak at all during the entire two-minute-long clip.
