Chevy Chase Quits 'Community'
by Shannon KeirnanChevy Chase has finally quit “Community,” surprising no one.
Chase hasn’t been shy about stating his dislike for the show, including when he notably said of taking the role, “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want … The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”
Chase has also notoriously caused tension on-set, using the N-word, and feuding openly with creator Dan Harmon.
Luckily, most episodes for this season have already been filmed, so Chase’s exit won’t make too much of an impact at this point. Since the future of the show is still up in the air, it’s possible that his leaving won’t be a deal-breaker for the show. Especially because many fans consider Chase’s character, millionaire Pierce Hawthorne, to be the “weak link” anyway.
Chase has appeared on the show since its debut in 2009, and complained ever since. The only concession he gave, if it can be called that, was a mildly complimentary (and yet insulting) admission that he enjoys his cast mates.
“It’s not like I am working with the great innovators of all time, but at the same time, they are my friends.”
Charming. I’m sure everyone will be crying big salty tears to see him go.
The show, after much fighting for a spot, will premiere February 7th.
