Check Out a Special Effects Video from 'Game of Thrones'
by Andy NeuenschwanderThis season of "Game of Thrones" was probably the most ambitious season of television that HBO has undertaken yet, at least by special effects standards. There was the issue of those dragons, who were now born and had to make more than just one short appearance, and then there was the matter of making the battle of Blackwater a reality on a limited budget.
"GoT" passed all tests with flying colors, but you might be surprised to see how much special effects work went into scenes that didn't feature magical creatures or epic battles.
This special effects video shows how Robb's dire wolf was made to look like it was snapping at Jamie, and how even scenes in the snowy lands north of the Wall were augmented with CGI mountains. Heck, Pyke is just a hillside until the special effects wizards get to it.
And, of course, there are some behind-the-scenes looks at how the wildfire explosions in Blackwater were put together, how Dany's illusions and dragons were created, and more.
